View this email in your browser INDUSTRY PARTNER NOTES ↗︎ FAA Proposes New Framework for Supersonic Overland Flight as Congress Considers Supersonic Aviation Modernization Act Greenberg Traurig reports that the FAA issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on July 2, 2026, that would replace the decades-old speed-based ban on overland supersonic flight with a noise-based standard, capping sonic boom overpressure at 0.11 pounds per square foot at the surface. The move follows Executive Order 14304, which directed the FAA to lift the overland supersonic prohibition and finalize noise standards by June 2027, and tracks parallel momentum in Congress, where the House passed the Supersonic Aviation Modernization Act in March 2026 and the Senate version cleared committee on July 22, 2026. An AIA/McKinsey study found roughly 15% industry turnover in 2024, more than double other U.S. sectors, with about 25% of the workforce eligible to retire within a decade and hundreds of thousands of engineering roles projected unfilled by 2030.
