Theo Smith

Theo Smith is a corporate and international trade attorney at Kirton McConkie that specializes in serving the aerospace and defense industry in Utah. Theo works to ensure that companies, universities, and military affiliates are compliant with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and other federal regulations when trading, exporting, or licensing defense-related products, services, and technology.

Theo’s legal services include negotiating and drafting international trade agreements as well as filing the appropriate government documentation and ITAR registration. He also has extensive experience in general corporate and business legal services, such as forming business entities and pursuing mergers and acquisitions. Theo’s ITAR practice group at Kirton McConkie is the only such group located in Utah, offered by Utah attorneys at Utah prices.

Theo received his J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School and his B.A. in English and Chinese from Brigham Young University – Idaho. While at The University of Chicago, Theo was also trained in business strategy, corporate finance, accounting, and negotiation at the Booth School of Business.

Theo speaks Mandarin and has lived in Beijing and Taipei.
